Ujamaa Construction, Georgia Black Constructor Association (GBCA) Member, selected as Majority Partner for Obama Presidential Library
The Georgia Black Constructors Association, President, Margaret Muhammad, congratulates its General Contractor member, Ujamaa Construction, Inc. and the Lake Side Alliance on being selected as the majority partner for the construction of the Obama Presidential Library in Chicago, Illinois. The Lakeside Alliance is a Quad Venture of four African American General Contractors, led by Ujamaa, that have come together to pursue and construct this one of kind and unique project. Former President Barack Obama and the Obama Foundation wanted to show true diversity in leadership positions on this project. Demonstrating that a non-majority alliance could, in fact, head such a large project.
Ujamaa entered the Atlanta market two years ago with membership in the Georgia Black Constructors Association. Jimmy Akintonde – President, joined panelist Mike Ross – MHR International, David Moody – CD Moody Construction, Pamela Smith – Smith Realities, last year during the 2017 GBCA Construction Expo in a discussion of “How to Partner / Team with a Majority firm”.
As he does in Chicago, Mr. Akintonde works with GBCA to ensure job placement for the graduates of our Apprenticeship Program, because he firmly believes in helping young people grow and meet their aspirations. He has been instrumental in lead sponsorship for many of our local programs.
The local Atlanta office is headed by Todd Presley – Co Principal and Vice President. We look forward to a continued relationship with Ujamaa and referrals of Sub-Contracts for the Obama Library and other projects.
GBCA has several teaming projects scheduled with Ujamma and other General Contractor Members for 2018 as we work toward Ensuring Economic Justice within the construction industry.
